At their E3 this year, Nintendo had an entirely separate roundtable dedicated to nothing but the upcoming Pokemon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS. After a brief look at the games during Nintendo’s Direct yesterday, during which they confirmed a new Pokemon Type, as well as stats based on your bond with your Pokemon, which can be controlled via various minigames, they went ahead and revealed many more changes to the long running and storied franchise that promise to shake things up when the game finally releases in October this year.

These changes include the Player Search System, which will enable players to search for any other player online by simply entering their name into a search field; PSS also integrates with your 3DS friends list, and automatically includes Pokemon playing friends from there.

Among the other detailed changes were new battle scenarios such as Sky Battles and Horde Battles. The former are visually breathtaking battles that take place in the sky, with impressive camera angles and attack animations, but require both players to have a Pokemon that knows Fly on their team; the latter are more mechanically intense, as they pit one of your Pokemon against up to four wild Pokemon, all of whom gang up on you, presenting the player with asymmetric Pokemon battles for the first time in the series’ history.

This was all in addition to expected changes like new Pokemon and evolutions, requested changes such as a more transparent EV and IV system, and minor changes, such as the ability to choose whatever language you want to play this game in, another first for the Pokemon series.

Pokemon X and Y hit the 3DS in October this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.
