Lag compensation, one of the key factors when competing in a multiplayer game, has been rather problematic for the Call of Duty series. Black Ops 2, from Treyarch, had some of the worst compensation yet, and obviously with Call of Duty: Ghosts tacking on new engine features, there was worry that it would be the same this time around.

However, as YouTube user Drift0r discovered when speaking to executive producer Mark Rubin, there will be some improvements with the lag compensation in Ghosts.

For one thing, matchmaking code will be tweaked so that all players can have a better connection. Players will be connected to hosts who are geographical closer, but to make up for the low ping that often results (since the routing doesn’t always get you the closest physical position), a host with better routing will be able to help you in having a better connection.

However, it’s a hit or miss approach since not all ISPs will give the same effect. To that end, Ghosts will ensure thourhg a new mapping technique that you’re always synced to the best host with the best connection possible. It’s not perfect, but it will help alleviate many of the issues present in Black Ops 2.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to release for PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U and PC on November 5th.
