Insomniac’s flagship Ratchet and Clank series has seen better days. The mascot based platformers had some great outings on the Playstation 2, and the series was among Sony’s best. However, on the Playstation 3, after a good start with the Ratchet and Clank Future trilogy, the series completely stumbled with the experimental and, let’s face it, crap All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault.
Insomniac, however, maintains that it is proud of those game. “We are proud of A4O and FFA. Anytime you work on a series like this, you need time to experiment and try new stuff. We think A4O is a killer family game (and get lots of fan mail for it), and FFA had great competitive. But that said, we’ve been coming up with lots of great ideas for a classic Ratchet game in the last few years. It’s really fun to work on one again,” said Stevenson, Marketing Lead at Insomniac.
The ‘new one’ he is talking about is, of course, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, the new game in the series that was announced as a holiday Playstation 3 release. The new game does, in fact, look like a much needed (and welcomed!) return to the series’ roots. Insomniac agrees.
They also talk about how the game has no multiplayer, and why it was on PS3 and not PS4. “We have a ton of Ratchet fans on PS3 who loved the Future saga, it seemed right to bring the Epilogue to them on that platform!” Stevenson says, before adding, “This is a single-player experience and all of our development resources have gone into that.” He goes on to say this game won’t be as long as A Crack in Time, the much celebrated conclusion of the Ratchet and Clank Future saga, but it will have a ton of variety.
Into the Nexus releases later this year on PS3. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.
