Among the many first-party releases that Xbox has lined up for 2025, one in particular that has caught the eye is South of Midnight. Developer Compulsion Games’ action-adventure title is promising a unique gothic fantasy setting inspired by the American Deep South, which, combined with its Southern folklore-inspired story, its unique art style, and is stop-motion animation style, seems to have the makings of a fascinating game.
To shed more light on all of that and more, Compulsion Games and Microsoft has released a 30-minute documentary that details the development of South of Midnight. Various members of the development team speak about the process of conceptualizing the game and working on its setting, story, characters, visual style, gameplay mechanics, and more.
In addition to talking about its many inspirations and the steps that were taken by the development team to ensure the experience feels as authentic to those inspirations as possible, the documentary also reveals a host of new details on the game itself, along with a healthy amount of new gameplay footage, showcasing combat, traversal, a number of locations, boss fights, and more. South of Midnight is due out in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
