EA: New Mirror’s Edge Took So Long “Because We Wanted Right Concept and Idea”

Executive VP Patrick Söderlund is glad they waited though.

Mirror's Edge
Of the many games announced at E3 2013, not many had the “yay” mixed with prolonged “NO!” emotion that Mirror’s Edge evoked. Billed as a reboot and origins story for protagonist Faith, EA revealed that the next generation title would be released “when it’s done”.

That being said, what took so long to get to a new game in the first place? Gamereactor posed this question to EA Games executive vice president Patrick Söderlund, who stated that, “It’s taken this long because we wanted to get to the right concept and the right idea. And Sara Jansson who is producer on it, when she pitched her idea to me and Karl-Magnus, the GM for DICE, I was frankly blown away. I’m like ‘Finally, you’ve got it!’ and when you hear something like that…

“She pitched an idea that frankly could only be built on gen 4, is a stunning concept, and when she came to us we knew we had it. And yes, we’ve been testing ideas and we’ve been prototyping stuff, and I’m glad that we waited to get the right idea.”

But when will the game release? Cue the sad, tired phrase above.
