Call of Duty Ghosts Features A Dynamic Engine, Scales According To Platform

Raven Software senior producer Derek Racca says "there's no current or next gen engine".

Much has been discussed about Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, from the new story to the new mechanics. The engine for the game has been up for almost as much discussion, as Infinity Ward revealed that it wasn’t so much a “new” engine as a heavily modified one. The question is: For a cross-generational such as this, will Ghosts provide a better visual experience on next-gen consoles?

Speaking to TechRadar, Raven Software senior producer Derek Racca, who is working on the multiplayer component of Ghosts stated that, “Basically, our engine will scale to provide the best look for each platform.

“There’s no current-gen engine or next-gen engine, it’s just ‘the engine” and basically we create something, an asset that’s just ‘shoot-for-the-moon crazy high-res’, and then the engine determines the best way to show that on each generation.”

Considering that developers such as Ubisoft Montreal and DICE are looking for all the little ways to take advantage of next-gen consoles, does the approach of Raven Software and Infinity Ward measure up? We’ll find out when Call of Duty: Ghosts releases on November 5th for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC, November 15th for PS4 in North America and November 22nd on Xbox One.
