The Long Dark Reaches Its Kickstarter Goal And Looks To New Horizons

A graphic novel and extended soundtrack are both possibilities

This past weekend, Hinterland hit their Kickstarter crowd funding goal of $200,000 for their survival sim-game, The Long Dark. With the goal reached, we are guaranteed versions of The Long Dark across PC, Mac, Linux and the Oculus Rift.

Even with all of the support, however, Hinterland thinks they can get more out of their Kickstarter fans. With three days left to go they’ve included stretch goals of $25,000 and $50,000.

For their $25,000 goal, the team will put together a full length graphic novel, available for download to all backers. And at $50,000, an extended soundtrack which will, in hinterland’s own words, “double the music!”

Composers Cris and Sascha gave us some insight into the soundtrack in a recent update:

“Of course in The Long Dark we don’t have an Alien lifeform buried underneath the ice [Boooo! – Ed] but some similarities are still to be made: the cold winter, the isolation, and sheer need to survive. And our first main idea came from the story itself: All of humanity’s technological might is laid to waste, neutralized in a kind of quiet apocalypse. So we realized we needed two things: something that would reflect the more organic, nature side of the game, and something that would also give the game’s score a sense of beauty and hope.”
