With Nintendo 3DS systems now being the official electronically assisted guides in the famous Louvre museum in Paris, Nintendo of Europe has gone a step ahead, and released a Louvre app for the system, that essentially lets you navigate the Louvre galleries and examine their displays and exhibits from up close, in full stereoscopic 3D.
Over 600 photographs of the artworks, 400 photographs of the rooms in the museum itself, and more than 30 hours of audio commentary is included in this app, which basically lets you plot out your virtual tour through the museum.
The app, now available on the Nintendo eShop, is 1.8GB in size, and therefore won’t work on the stock 2GB SD cards that are included with the base 3DS system (3DS XL and 2DS systems are in the clear, though).
It’s good to see Nintendo is expanding the non gaming functionality of the 3DS, and this is certainly an unexpected app. It will be interesting to see what other kinds of apps they plan on releasing on the system in the future.
