The Order 1886 is one of the major PlayStation 4 exclusive that is expected to arrive sometime in 2014. Given the spike in power from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4, many developers are now rendering vast worlds open for exploration. So where does Ready At Dawn’s The Order 1886 fits in? Is it going to be a fairly linear experience or will it have vast areas where the player can explore at will.
Creative director Ru Weerasuriya believes that open environments only make sense when it gives players something back. So it seems that alternative Victorian London setting will not be explorable in its full glory.
Justifying the game’s design Ru Weerasuriya stated that making the city explorable is something “that’s always the struggle.”
“I love to explore the environment so long as it gives you something back. Yes, we’re trying to do some of that, but the reality is that it’s a single player game that takes you on a ride, and we don’t want to compromise that ride,” he said to Edge.
It seems that The Order 1886 will follow a pretty linear approaching which is a touch disappointing given the potential of the next gen consoles. But on the other hand we don’t mind if the developers manage to take us for one hell of a ‘ride’.
