When Double Fine Productions ran into trouble with its crowd-funded Broken Age, namely in the overall scope of the project, it decided to split it into two parts and release the first on Steam Early Access to raise funds. However, the developer has decided to provide Act 1 as a retail Steam release, with a Season Pass providing access to Act 2 when it releases.

“For various logistical reasons and because we believe Act 1 is a polished and satisfying piece of content in its own right, Broken Age will be a standard Steam release that includes a ‘Season Pass’ granting access to Act 2 once it is complete. Anyone who has Act 1 — either by being a backer, or by buying the game separately — will receive Act 2 as a free update when it’s ready.”

Broken Age: Act 1 will also be receiving a release date today, on January 14th. What are your thoughts on the bypassing of Early Access and receiving Act 2 for free when it’s out? Let us know below.
