The Order 1886 will have branching quick time events, Ready At Dawn Co-founder Ru Weerasuriya has revealed. This means that players can take a different approach in a given situation. In the gameplay trailer, the protagonist is shown to be fighting a rebel and in the end he is given multiple choices. Ru explains how this will work in the game.
“In the beginning you always talk about it’s going to be 50% melee, 50% combat. It truly never is because you have to always rely on something a little bit more than other so we can make sure the core mechanics we rely upon is tried and true, so what we did with the third person shooter is we tried to hold true to things that we love about it and add other things we loved about other genres. The fun part [about the melee] was to bring in the QTE sense but in a different atmosphere where you could engage in combat and suddenly be given the choice of doing different things,” he said in an interview with PlayStation Access.
He also explains that even if the player fails a QTE sequence it won’t be the end of the road as the story takes a different path.
“For example our QTEs will sometimes have branching where you might fail which does not mean you might fail the sequence, it just means it goes on a different path. So that allows people to play the game…the same exact sequence in multiple different ways and see multiple different endings. It’s not just pressing about a button, it’s also about choosing what you want to do…for example the last move we showed the player grabbing the knife and killing the rebel but in the game you will see there are multiple choices and different ways to achieve the same goal,” he said.
