Project Morpheus

Unless you are living under the rock, Sony have announced their entry into the world of Virtual Reality. They announced their project yesterday during the ongoing Game Developers Conference. Following up our story yesterday, we have a got few more tid-bits regarding the VR headset.

Studio Technical Director at Ubisoft, Gregory Garcia who was able to get his hands on the Sony’s new tech has revealed new information. First of all he revealed that the screen’s latency is good but it seemed pixelized. “Screen latency is good but a bit pixelized. Pretty cool PSMove usage on Castle,” he tweeted.

Damien Kieken, who works at Ubisoft Montreal also found the situation to be similar when compared to Oculus Rift. “The screen quality is good but you can still see the pixel like with the Oculus Rift (haven’t tried the HD one).”

Kieken mentioned that even though the device itself is comfortable to wear users can still see the ground below. “So, here is my Morpheus demo debrief. It’s quite comfortable and easy to adjust. Immersion wasn’t perfect: was still able to see the ground.”

He also mentioned that in one of the demos there was no feeling of motion sickness. “Immersion is quite cool, even more with the pad mimicking your arm. As soon as the shark attacks the cage, everything is moving but not you.”

“…So it’s quite weird and breaking your immersion. I’m subject to motion sickness but didn’t felt it here which is great,” he said.

There is no release date and price announced for the headset yet. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
