PS Vita System Update 3.10 Launches Today

And the 100 bubble limit has finally been removed!

The PS Vita is a wonderful device, but man are Sony boneheaded in how they handle it. Take the memory situation, for example- no, I’m not going to talk about the obscenely overpriced memory cards for the system, although that’d be a wonderful rant to go off on.

No, I’m talking about here the ridiculous 100 icon limit on the Vita home screen… which means that, if you have a 100 icons displaying at any time, you cannot install any more applications or games on the system. No matter how much memory you might have still free- if you have a 100 icons displaying, you can’t install any more data. No, making folders does not circumvent the problem.

Well, the newest PS Vita update aims to fix just that, and other memory management problems on the system- the bubble limit has been increased to a much more reasonable 500 icons now, for example, and a full fledged memory management tool has been added to the system itself, so you don’t have to do any of it from your PC or PS3 anymore. In one of the less useful additions of this update, a Calendar app is now also going to place itself on your home screen, and it even syncs up with Google Calendar.

Along with other improvements, such as support for voice messaging, as well as enhanced parental controls, this sounds like a really hefty update all around. It’s live now, so go get it (just… make sure to backup your system before you do download and install the new firmware. Just in case).
