Batman: Arkham Knight

A recent string of previews has emerged for Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Knight, including some new details about the Batmobile. We already covered the creation process for the Arkham Knight, but it’s the Batmobile which is arguably more enticing.

First off though, the city will feature a similar atmosphere to The Dark Knight Rises, with the citizens evacuating following a threat from Scarecrow. You’ll be able to traverse the city in the Batmobile, going on chases with goons when they’re not dodging the vehicle or getting zapped by its auto-taser.

You’ll also be able to climb walls and drive on ceilings with the same, which comes in handy with The Riddler’s obstacle course that was showcased, where the path changes with each lap. You’ll be hitting the Action button in select instances to traverse obstacles.

You can summon the Batmobile from anywhere and or just stick to traditional gliding, though it takes far longer considering the relative size of the city. This time you’ll be able to use gadgets while gliding and the fighting mechanics have been modified to include environmental interactions a la Sleeping Dogs. Weapons from enemies can now be seized and used freely while a new Stealth Takedown has been revealed for felling multiple guards.

As for the city, it’s been lovingly detailed and the visuals have seen a significant upgrade from Arkham City. Individual raindrops while Batman is diving can be seen and you’ll notice various areas sticking out more than others, such as the neon lights of the Chinatown area.

Draw distance is also incredible, even though many reported seeing slight performance issues on the build that was showcased (which ran on the PC). The smooth transition from cutscenes to gameplay was favourably noted though, as were the particle effects and texture quality.

Batman: Arkham Knight will release on October 14th worldwide for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
