Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

Last year, Crystal Dynamics rebooted the classic Tomb Raider franchise to great results; the game went on to be a big success for Square Enix in the end (it recently received a rather well done remastered re-release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4), so it was obvious that it would be receiving a sequel soon.

The sequel has already been discussed by Square Enix’s management before, but now we get our first insight into what the game will be like, via job postings Crystal Dynamics made for the game. Crystal Dynamics is looking for Systems Designer, who they want to specialize in RPG lite elements, character progression, game difficulty, player mechanics, economy, combat difficulty, world systems design and general maintenance from concept to ship- making it sound like the new game will build on the RPG concepts and mechanics of last year’s game.

It’s a similar story with the Combat Systems Designer and the Cinematics Leadboth listings seem to indicate an intent on Crystal Dynamics’ part to build on the formula of last year’s game. Indeed, it sounds like that might be the best strategy, especially considering the age old axiom of ‘don’t fix it if it’s not broken’ applied to a game as fundamentally well done as Tomb Raider last year was.
