Meet Zpocalypse: Survival

A rogue-lite strategic survival game where you manage a group of survivors in a post-nuclear zombie apocalypse.

Zpocalypse: Survivor is the first game being developed by a small band of indie game developers who go by Greenbrier Games; they’re comprised mostly of newcomers, but there are some industry veterans in the mix as well.

Anyway, the game itself is one about exploration and survival in a world that is rent apart by a zombie apocalypse. The player’s job is to help a group of survivors attempt to eke out an existence and build a place for themselves in a brutal world. They will need to scavenge for supplies and food, find and fortify a shelter, recruit other survivors to their cause, craft the gear they need to continue on, defend their people, and attempt to grow and expand, facing challenges every step of the way.

The game first debuted at PAX East, alongside a Kickstarter campaign and a Greenlight entry that both went online on the same day. It’s due out on PC, but a Mac and Linux port is also planned.

According to the developers themselves, there are a ton of zombie games that are made these days, and they acknowledge Zpocalypse could get lost in the shuffle. But they also promise that Zpocalypse will differentiate itself from other games on the market.

Zombie games are a dime a dozen nowadays, so why do we deserve your attention? We hope the features we are developing set us apart! The world is randomly generated, not static (more replayability), it is real-time with pause (more fluid than turn-based but more tactical than pure real-time), you’re not an elite survivor killing fields of zombies without breaking a sweat (the world is dangerous and your people are going to die often), there is base-building and defense that will require you to make important decisions about how to manage resources, survivors and time (engaging you in a longer term outlook and strategy) and the game is built to be scalable and moddable (allowing not only our team but the community to enhance the game into the future),” they said in a press release.

If you want to support the game, you can back it on its Kickstarter page. Meanwhile, check out the video above, and let us know what you think in the comments!
