DICE Thinks It Might Have Solved Battlefield 4 Rubber-Banding Issue

That's one problem down, eleven hundred to go.

The Battlefield 4 launch was a disaster. We know this now, and I’m more intimately aware of this fact than I have any right to be, considering I’ve never actually played the game, simply because of the alarming frequency with which I have to report on Battlefield 4 fixes and patches.

Apparently, the latest issue with the game is rubber-banding (and here I thought that was a big deal only in Mario Kart…):the problem, which sees players disappear and then rapidly appear at some other part of the map, has been an issue prevalent in the game’s 64 player online modes especially since the launch of Naval Strike.

However, DICE boss Karl Magnus Troedsson thinks the developers have nailed down the issue and effectively fixed it up.

“We’ve found that the root cause of the issue was a configuration of certain hardware types dedicated to 64-player matches,” he explained on Battlelog.

“We have invested in new hardware to resolve this issue and deployed new higher-performance servers this week. In preparation, we conducted a significant amount of testing before installing the new servers to ensure they would correct the issue. We are already seeing performance improvement with 64-player matches and expect this to continue.

“While the process took longer than we would’ve liked, we wanted to be 100 per cent sure it was done right and that the long-term solution was properly in place.”

Well, that’s another issue struck off the list. I appreciate DICE being so responsive with trying to patch the game up, but maybe next time, they could launch something that wasn’t fundamentally broken code?
