Nintendo has released a Nintendo Direct video for the upcoming Wii U exclusive Mario Kart 8, detailing a ton of new information regarding the game’s looming launch. There’s also two new characters announced- Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina.
There are also new items that will be introduced in Mario Kart 8. The first is Super Horn. Blowing the Super Horn sends out a sonic blast that blows away everything and anything in your vicinity- items, coins, objects, hurdles, other characters, anything. The other item that will be introduced in the game is Super 8. Just like Lucky 7 in Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS, Super 8 will will give players a swirl of eight different items that they will be able to use one by one.
Nintendo has also announced that in Mario Kart 8, 12 players will be able to play online against one another across four multiplayer modes, and will also be able to chat with each other in the game’s online lobby using the Wii U Gamepad microphone. They will also be able to record and share clips of their own races via the new Mario Kart TV.
Nintendo is also releasing a Wii U bundle for the game, which will release on May 30. The bundle will include, of course, a Wii U Deluxc Set platform, a red Mario themed Wii U steering wheel accessory, a red Mario themed Wii Remote Plus controller and, obviously, a copy of Mario Kart 8 itself. It will cost $329.99 (SRP).
Nintendo has also announced that if you buy the game before July 31, you will also be getting a code to download a completely new game from Wii U’s eShop for free. You can choose between any of the following: New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or Wii Party U. That’s a pretty solid list, I’d say.
Mario Kart 8 releases for the Wii U on May 30.
