Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Tons of new information for Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare courtesy of GameSpot and there’s plenty of new things happening by the looks of it.

We already covered a separate studio working on the Xbox 360 and PS3 port. The game overall will run on new, unrevealed engine, with Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey talking about a catastrophic event having occurred in the world of 2054 – something called a “global 9/11”. It will take place across multiple continents with a terrorist organization called KVA leaving their mark.

You’ll play as Private Mitchell, voiced by voice actor Troy Baker. He only speaks during cutscenes though, and teams with Atlas Corporation CEO Jonathan Irons’ son Will Irons. He joins Atlas after completing his tour of duty with the Marines, Will offers him a job at Atlas. You’re equipped with an EXO Suit in the game – which only has one main character this time – and you’ll earn points from each mission to upgrade. The EXO Suit allows for boosting to dodge while moving to cover, super jumps, optic camouflage, hovering and magnetic gloves to climb walls. “Variable” grenades can also be used and they allow for revealing enemies while being cooked or concussing them. There will be some new energy weapons and a vehicle called the Pitball, based on a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.

Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield talked about how Activision brought in “experts from production design in movies to experts in the military to scientists and futurists” to create a realistic world for the game. Co-op was confirmed as was the involvement of composer Harry Gregson-Williams for the soundtrack. Audio director Don Veca added that, “I think Advanced Warfare is going to be the best-sounding and certainly the best-mixed game ever” and even Kevin Spacey, whom character Jonathan Irons is based off of, is “very excited” about the game.

What about the multiplayer? Condrey said later that, “You can probably imagine the possibilities of a lot of the stuff you saw in single-player and how it would apply online.” We’ll have to wait for more information but to eSports players, Activision is “absolutely committed” to the sport.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be out on November 4th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC.
