Nintendo 2014 Financials Revealed: Wii U Sells 6.17 Million Units in Lifetime

Nintendo's flagship home console comes in way below expectations.

Nintendo’s fiscal year report, ending March 31st 2014, has revealed the company’s hardware and software sales for the year prior. It also revealed the lifetime sales for the Wii U, which came in at 6.17 million units worldwide since launching in November 2012. The 3DS did far better with 43 million units sold till date.

Wii U software sales came in at 32.28 million units over the console’s lifetime, with 18.9 million units sold in the last 12 months. The 3DS software sales came to a lifetime total of 162.92 million units.

Revenue came in at ¥571.7 billion ($5.6 billion), signifying a 10 percent year-on-year decline while losses made up ¥23.2 billion ($228.6 million). This is compared to the previous year when Nintendo made a profit of ¥7.1 billion profit ($69.9 million). The company remains optimistic however, projecting a revenue of ¥590 billion ($5.81 billion) and roughly ¥20 billion ($196.9 million) in profits by March 31st 2015.

But will it be able to, especially with the PS4 and Xbox One now in full swing? Stay tuned.
