Sony announces new handheld system, NGP; Uncharted also on the system

Sony, at their PlayStation Meeting in Japan, just announced their next generation handheld console, called the NGP- Next Generation Portable. That images given above are the true image of the system.

The system has:

  • A touch screen
  • A touch pad on the back
  • Two analog sticks. Actually sticks this times, not nubs.
  • Six Axis motion controls
  • Front and rear cameras
  • A Microphone
  • A 5″ OLED screen
  • Flash cards based as a new game medium
  • PS3 level graphics, 4X the resolution of the original PSP
  • 3G and Wi-fi
  • A super oval design
  • Trophies
  • Gyro-sensor

We’re also guessing the system will have a long battery life, thanks to the OLED screen and no optical medium. The PSP2, called or at least codenamed the NGP will be releasing this Holiday season.

Sony’s Next Gen Handheld Revealed

Sony also showed some games running on the NGP, so I’m guessing they’ll be released on the system. They showed Killzone, WipEout, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, Gravity Daze, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighters, Smart As, Broken, Little Deviants, and… wait for it… Uncharted!

Yes, they played Uncharted to demonstrate how it was run, and they used all kinds of controls- the touch screen, the touch pad, the motion sensing, the analog sticks.
