Tom Clancy’s The Division was announced at the end of Ubisoft’s E3 press conference last year, and although it has since never quite exited the limelight, new information on it has been relatively scant. However, today Ubisoft made a post on their blog where they discussed the E3 demo of the game, and walked us through what makes The Divsion different.

Imagining the collapse of civilization has led to some truly amazing games in the past few years, but almost all of them have one thing in common: they simply accept the apocalypse as the new reality, without actually trying to do anything about it. There’s no hope for the future beyond living to see another day, and “heroes” are, at most, concerned with prolonging the survival of someone they care about,” they begin, adding that in The Division, the heroes attempt to reverse the apocalypse instead of simply sitting down and accepting it as the new order; narratively speaking, at least, this should lead to some interesting and exciting possibilities.

Ubisoft then goes on to explain the individual parts of the demo they had shown off at E3, while also promising a ‘massive game, that boasts explorable areas that include high rooftops, deep subway tunnels and everything in between. You’re bound to discover plenty of opportunities to improve the world as you wander. Just be sure to bring a friend.’ Of course, one has to hope that the open world in The Division will be a better one than was in, say, Assassin’s Creed III or Watch Dogs, both of which presented the players with wide expanses of land, and the most banal of activities populating them.
