Fallout 4 and The Dangers of Hype

Why Bethesda is right in waiting to properly talk about Fallout 4.

Several games have released this year and seemingly failed to live up to the hype. We won’t name names (*cough*Watch Dogs*cough*) but it is staggering just how many AAA titles have come up short in meeting expectations. The same logic can be extended to Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 has been analyzed and hyped up for years now. This hype has reached dangerous levels in the past year ever since rumours stated that it was shown behind closed doors at E3 2013. To top it off, casting call documents had leaked earlier this year confirming the game’s existence and setting. It’s to Bethesda’s credit that it has revealed nothing about the game, much less talked about or confirmed its existence. The way things are now, the hype would simply eat the game alive.

So rather than pestering Bethesda to reveal or confirm the game already, why not just wait to be surprised? And no, not with a behind-the-scenes developer diary (*cough*EA*cough*). What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of Fallout. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into Fallout 4, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.
