Ubisoft: Don’t Worry About The Division ‘Downgrade’

'Snowdrop engine has very high graphical fidelity.'

Tom Clancy's The Division

Ubisoft has become sort of infamous for its downgrades of some gorgeous looking games that it announces- the original Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3, and most recently, Watch Dogs, all became notorious for having a final product that looked nowhere near as nice as its demonstrations and trailers made it out to look.

So naturally, people fear that the newest, upcoming Ubisoft games might suffer similar downgrades as well. And indeed, there have been fears, further fueled by recent rumors, that Ubisoft’s excellent looking The Division will also be downgraded similarly to Watch Dogs. However, Ubisoft has acknowledged these fears, and actually responded to them openly.

“We get [those concerns] a lot. I think the problem with having an engine like Snowdrop where the graphical fidelity is so high, that of course you’re going to have those concerns. You know, we’re working really hard, especially this year, what we brought is the look that you’ll have on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. PC might even be able to push it,” said Game Director Ryan Barnard in a recent video interview.

Hopefully, in this case, Ubisoft’s insistence about the visual quality of the final product isn’t like their assurances for Watch Dogs during the downgrading controversy were.
