More premium cars are coming, though.

If you’re wondering if Polyphony Digital is working on the next aspect of the Gran Turismo series, wonder no more: they are. In an interview with Eurogamer at this year’s Goodwood Festival, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 was in development, though it probably won’t be coming out this year as he previously stated.

“We are working on the title. I don’t think it’ll make this year!”

He also said that the team will go straight into development on the next game rather than working on a smaller, preview product. “I don’t think it’ll be a Prologue,” he said.

What we can expect from the latest game in the series? Polyphony has recently stated on its blog that the next game will address the series’ longstanding problem with sound quality, though Gran Turismo 6 will see some sound updates in future patches. “I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7,” said Yamauchi.

Standard cars that date back to Gran Turismo 6 will probably still be in the game, however. “I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars,” Yamauchi said. “Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we’re more focused on increasing the number of premium cars.”

While the inclusion of the standard cars will likely disappoint some fans, it’s probably better to have more cars than less, and it’s good to see Polyphony Digital focusing on adding more premium cars. Now all we have to do is wait for them to finish the game.
