Gearbox Software may have a ton of intriguing games out in the coming year including Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Battleborn, but it wasn’t too long ago that the company was embroiled in controversy due to Aliens: Colonial Marines. According to some recent legal documents related to a class action lawsuit, Gearbox has revealed that it made no royalties from the game’s sales.

“During the development process, Gearbox supplemented Sega’s development budget with its own money to help Sega finish its game; Gearbox’s contribution to A:CM totaled millions, none of which was ever repaid. Gearbox never received money from Sega’s A:CM purchasers, nor has Gearbox received a single royalty from any such sales by Sega.”

This is more due to Aliens: Colonial Marines not meeting sales targets rather than Sega not paying its dues. “The game’s sales were insufficient to trigger any sales-based payments to Gearbox and, as a result, Gearbox has not received any additional monies from Sega for the sale of the game. Gearbox only received the milestone payments made by Sega during the game’s development.”

What do you think? Did Gearbox get what it deserved? Let us know in the comments below.
