Ubisoft’s upcoming title, The Division may be set in a large world inhabited by other players and littered with a number of vehicles, and we already know that you won’t be allowed to drive them. But at least now we know why.

The world that Ubisoft is trying to build is one that will be packed with details and rich with content that you would otherwise miss if you were to careen down a street at breakneck speeds in a stolen vehicle. Remember the demo that showed the level of detail in a fire fight?

Well the game world is going to be packed with these little bits and pieces, so it only makes sense that the developers want to make sure you take it all in.

Speaking to Examiner.com, The Division Executive Producer Fredrik Rundqvist tells us why there won’t be any driving around the streets of New York, saying, “I think it’s fair to talk about the density of content, all of the details and all of the realism. That’s one of the reasons why we didn’t want vehicles in the game because when we tried it out, you would just drive past all of these great things and miss them.”

On the subject of Realism, The Division is set to include “contextual looting” which basically means the game will have the items you require, in the area you would expect them to be. Mr Rundqvist says, “If you’re looking for ammo, you will go into a sporting goods store or a police station. If you’re looking for med-kits, you go into the hospital, so it’s not going to just be spread out randomly all over the world. You can really imagine where it would be in the real world and head there in the game.”

And so there you have it! Use your brain and you can find all you’re going to need to ensure your survival and enjoy the view whilst you walk through the streets of New York.
