Last generation, Capcom famously revived a pretty dead series, Street Fighter, and made it mainstream and critically acclaimed again. In the process, it also almost single handedly kicked off the modern fighting game renaissance, although subsequently, they sort of drove their own fighting games into the ground, with five Street Fighter IV releases, two for Marvel vs Capcom 3, and one very poorly conceived Street Fighter x Tekken.
Anyway, that aside, Street Fighter is a big deal again, and obviously, fans want to know if and when the new consoles will be getting an entry. Speaking on his Twitter, series head honcho Yoshinori Ono confirmed that the company has plans to ‘eventually bring Street Fighter’ to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Whether this entails a brand new Street Fighter game, or (unfortunately) an equally likely reissue of an existing title, remains to be seen.
Ono also confirmed that the company has no plans at all to bring Street Fighter to the Wii U. Which, well, I mean yeah, third parties don’t support that system. Still, given Super Street Fighter IV’s unlikely success on the 3DS, and Capcom’s general inclination to give Nintendo a go, one would have thought they might have at least wanted to dip their toes in the water.
