Microsoft Says Free Xbox One Game Promotion Was An Error

Aw. That sucks.

A couple of days ago, Microsoft and Xbox One made waves when it came to light that they might let players play games listen on Xbox Live for free for a period of up to 24 hours. Microsoft’s official Twitter itself seemed rather taken aback at this development, although it did promise an official announcement would be coming up soon. And… it has come.

For those of you who were expecting Microsoft to offer this promotion (seriously, as part of Xbox live Gold, it would be so awesome, and it would also definitely be an additional value added perk over PSN with PS+), it turns out that this entire thing was just an error.

Microsoft’s official statement was:

“A promotional tile for “Max: Curse of the Brotherhood” was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience. We’re constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available.”

Damn it, Microsoft.

Well, at least now you know that people would respond favorably to a program like this, so maybe you can work to make this an actual perk of Xbox Live? That would be pretty cool.
