FBI Investigating Bomb Threats to Sony Online Entertainment President

Hopefully these guys are caught soon.

Yesterday, the PlayStation Network went down as a group of hackers launched a DDoS attack on it. That would have been the end of it- a DDoS is annoying and inconvenient, but it is nothing on, say, the sheer scale of the hacks that PSN suffered back in 2011- but then the hackers took it a step further when they issued a bomb threat to the American Airlines flight that the president of Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley was on, causing the flight to be diverted and re-routed for security reasons.

A threat like this officially puts these hackers (who call themselves the Lizard Squad) under the moniker of ‘terrorists’ and it seems like the FBI seems to agree, as they are now investigating the bomb threat, according to a statement made by Sony.

“The FBI is currently handling the situation at this time. We have no further comment,” Sony told GameInformer.

The FBI further added, “Today AA Flight 362 traveling from Dallas to San Diego was diverted to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The flight landed without incident. Passengers were safely removed from the plane. The investigation is still ongoing.”

Hopefully, the investigation is fruitful, and these guys are caught and brought to justice soon.
