Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation has been so hyped for so long now. After a series of successively disastrous games based on the Alien(s) property, this one game, we were promised, would be the Alien game we have always wanted, but somehow never received. Of course, I was always skeptical of all the announcements, in spite of the good showings the game got- does anyone remember the exact same hype and marketing promises for Aliens: Colonial Marines? Remember how that turned out?

So, who was right, then? Did my skepticism win through, or did the developers actually deliver on something that they promised for a change?

I’m happy to report that, judging by these review scores, Alien: Isolation appears to have been received exceedingly well so far. The reviews seem to indicate that this is the best Alien game yet, and the scores are largely positive: Eurogamer gave it 8, The Escapist gave it a 4.5 out of 5, CVG gave it 8, and Destructoid gave it 8.5.

That said, it’s not all rosy, as some outlets appear to be less than impressed by what Alien: Isolation has to offer. Unfortunately, these are the big ones- IGN gave the game a 5.9, Gamespot gave it a 6, and Polygon gave it a 6.5. Yeesh.

In spite of this, the reception for the game seems to be generally positive, with its Metascore currently resting at 79. It might not be the type of franchise reinvention and revival that something like Arkham Asylum or Shadow of Mordor were, but it still seems to be a good enough game.
