PS4 2.0 Update Is Out, Borks Things Up

*sigh* Sony...

Yesterday, after nearly a year of just idly sitting by while Microsoft and Nintendo routinely continued to add features to their consoles via firmware updates, Sony finally released the PS4 2.00 update, which promised multiple new features, such as themes and customizable backgrounds, as well as playing music off of a USB stick.

Apparently, this update is afflicting a wide range of PS4 users, creating issues as wide ranging as players being unable to sign into PSN, to players who simply cannot get their consoles to turn on.

Now, before you go ahead and dismiss all this as a case of a small group of users blowing things out of proportion, I would like to remind you that Sony has officially acknowledged these issues, and has released a statement in response:

“We are aware of issues reported by some PS4 users following the release of PS4′s latest system software update, v2.00.

“We are investigating these issues and will provide an update as soon as we have more information.”

While it would probably be best to wait for Sony to release a fix, in the meanwhile, you might want to try some less dangerous fixes for yourself- for instance, some users have reported that simply unplugging their consoles for 30-120 seconds, and then pugging them back in, seems to be addressing the issues.

But seriously, Sony. First major update in nearly a year, and you go ahead and screw it up. Good going, guys.
