PlayStation Now Subscription Pricing Brings In Mixed Reactions From Users

Sony starts off the year with big news but user reception is a mix bag.

PlayStation Now

Sony have announced a subscription based service for its games streaming service, PlayStation Now. The subscription plans are priced at $19.99 for one month or a three month package for $44.99.  The subscription service gives players access to over 100 PlayStation 3 games but opinion is divided on whether Sony got the pricing right.

Obviously this is a step up from the dreadful pricing plan during the open beta, but players’ reactions towards the announcement has been mix. The gaming community from Twitter, Reddit and NeoGaf believe that the pricing is simply too high and will mostly appeal to players who have never played on the PlayStation 3 before. Some users even believe that the pricing is flat out ridiculous given that pre-owned games are far more cheaper, whereas others compared the pricing to Netflix which offers movie streaming services for $8.99 per month. However there players who believe that the pricing is just about right, specially for the 3 month package.

It must be highlighted that although users from those three communities do not represent the majority of the gaming demographics in anyway, it’s still fascinating to note their reactions on the first big news of 2015.

PlayStation Now unlimited access subscriptions begins next week from January 13th. Our very own editorial on whether the pricing scheme makes sense will be published soon.
