While hacking scandals are often reserved for mass attacks on the likes of Microsoft or Sony, and yes even Nintendo, it’s sometimes easy to forget that individuals are often targeted by hackers and that this often flies under the radar. Sony have proven to be especially slow and willing to act in favour of the gamers, in fact they only recently resolved an issue that dates back to 2011. That’s not to say that Microsoft is stellar in this department, but they are at least better.

One unfortunate PlayStation 4 gamer has been left in the dark after having their console hacked. The user said, “My account got hacked, running up over $600 in charges.” Following this Sony left the unfortunate gamer with “two options”.

One of these options is to to a suffer a loss of $450 as Sony only offer a $150 refund margin and be unable to use the user’s account for 6 months. If the user dispute the charges with the bank, the PSN account will be banned forever. Recounting the chatlog with a Sony Representative, an extract reads, “I asked if there would be any way to restore my purchases, and he told me that there would not be, but I “only have the Last of Us and a couple of the monthly free deal games,” so it’s not a big deal.”

At the minute, the gamer is left in the dark until the investigation is closed, at which time a full refund could be issued, but as this is becoming a more common occurance, it’s a shame that more immediate action can’t be taken.
