The Wii U supports full game installs, but so far, this feature has never been used outside of digital games themselves. it appears that may be about to change soon, since Xenoblade Chronicles X might be the first Wii U game to support installs even with the disc version. The full game will not be installed, however. Instead, players will be given a choice from four different file types.
Installing these files will help a player reduce the load times that they would otherwise experience from then disc version of the game. Considering that Xenoblade Chronicles X is selling itself on being a seamless and vast open world, this is paramount. The four kinds of files that players will be permitted to install are:
- Field/Basic Data Pack (Large effect): 2GB, just basic data
- Enemy Data Pack (mid): 2.7GB, loading improved on the field
- Player Data Pack (mid): 3.6GB, loading times improved while changing equipment
- Doll Data Pack (mid): 1.7GB, shortens time for Dolls deployement
If you want, you can install all four of these, or more than one of these, but Field/Basic Data is the basic pack that everything else must be paired with.
Xenoblade Chronicles X launches exclusively on Wii U soon. Stay tuned.
