Back when the Xbox 360 first hit the market, and the concept of paid subscriptions for multiplayer gaming hadn’t gotten as much traction as it has now, Microsoft used to hold regular free multiplayer weekends for even Xbox Live Silver members, to sweeten the deal, and to lure them over to becoming subscribers. Over time, these weekends became less and less frequent, and today, they’re a rarity.
That said, this weekend, you can play online on Xbox Live for free even if you don’t have a Gold account, only on your Xbox 360. Xbox One is not included in this free multiplayer weekend.
All Xbox 360 games are eligible for this, with no exceptions, and this holds true worldwide- from May 1 to May 3, multiplayer is free.
This should be good news for someone who still owns an Xbox 360, still uses it regularly, and does not already have Xbox Live Gold- my only wish is that Microsoft had made Xbox Live free across the board for both Xbox consoles currently on the market, instead of just limiting it to Xbox 360.
