Phil Spencer Promises New Games over Remasters, Better Offline Functionality for Xbox One

Glad to hear it on both fronts.

The Xbox One was originally going to be an always online console, and it shows- the system is practically hobbled when you use it offline. You are not allowed to make profiles while offline (meaning you need to connect it to the internet at least once before it becomes usable, even with the new updates), you can’t pin tiles to your home menu offline (which makes absolutely no sense), achievements are not available offline (the Xbox 360 did this just fine, so it’s unclear why the Xbox One has so many problems with this), and these are just issues off the top of my head.

Now, Phil Spencer is promising that he will push to change all of these shortcomings as soon as possible. Of course, it’s a bit of a vague promise, and he didn’t even comment on a timeframe, but at least it is good to know that all of this feedback is not falling on deaf years.

On a different note, Spencer has also promised that Xbox will focus on delivering new games and content going forward. This means that Xbox and Xbox 360 remasters on the are not going to be emphasized going forward. Of course, one wonders how this will work with the upcoming Gears of War remaster on Xbox One.
