Project CARS For Wii U Having Problems Maintaining A Consistent 720p, 30fps

Does it surprise anyone anymore when the Wii U falls short?

Project CARS was quite the anticipated release when it first hit consoles and the PC a few weeks back. Since that release there have been a number of problems surrounding the title including the in-game physics when it comes to the Xbox One. That’s disappointing enough, but for Wii U players the fact that they don’t even have the game because it is struggling to maintain a certain level of graphic detail and sharpness has got to be especially frustrating, considering one of the game’s main claims to fame was how pretty it was supposed to be.

We’ve known for a while that the Wii U’s engine struggles to keep up with the PS4 and Xbox One, despite the fact that it’s been billed as a “next gen” console. Surprisingly honest posts from Slightly Mad Studios head Ian Bell on the Project CARS forum explains the studio is having real problems getting the game to where they want it. Most disappointing of all, is that Bell hinted his team might wait until the Nintendo NX. That, of course is the console that hasn’t been officially unveiled and won’t be available until at least the end of next year and more likely not until 2017. Bell did say that if no NX announcement comes at E3 this year, the team will “have a go” at finishing the game for the Wii U.

At the same time, he said the team will “really have to cut the looks back” in order to get Project CARS running for the Wii U. He finished with, “We could reach a fairly solid 30FPS but it might take a hell of a lot of work. On the other hand, about halfway through us finishing, Nintendo might announce a new console (I have zero knowledge on this BTW but I’ve heard ‘rumors’). Our work might just be the best thing that ever hit that new console in the driving sim genre. So we’re playing a waiting game at the moment and yes, economics do come in to it.”

So basically, don’t expect Project CARS for the Wii U soon, if at all.
