Fallout 4: Should Skills Be Reflected In The Character’s Outward Appearance?

And will conversations be fixed?

Fallout 4

As pointed out in a recent video posted by Mr Matty Plays, the conversation system in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas wasn’t exactly perfect. In fact, it was fairly awful in places. At times, the game would often grind to a halt while you spoke to someone, before resuming business. Matty himself even mentions that quests would break on him because of mid-combat dialogue. So yeah, that needs to be fixed in Fallout 4.

Another point to be noted: Will your characters skills be reflected in your outward appearance? Well, there’s no reason this couldn’t be done. This has been done in games before and first caught people’s attention in a big way when Grand Theft Auto San Andreas launched. Remember all that gym time?

While I think this is an interesting idea, it doesn’t seem like it would fit too well with the game’s post apocalyptic settings, provided that Fallout 4 follows in the steps of the previous entries. I say this is because Fallout characters are often built from composite parts of other character models, that’s why so many NPC’s look the same.

Sure, you can make the characters appearance scale with their stats, but this leaves more space for a. more glitches and b. more characters all looking the same anyway. It would be a nice touch, but you wouldn’t miss it if it wasn’t there in the first place. But what are your thoughts on these two features? Do you think Bethesda should reflect the skills in the character’s personality? What else do you want Bethesda to fix in their conversation system? Sound off in the comments section below.

This article is part of our series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of Fallout. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into Fallout 4, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.
