Epic Games’ Fortnite may not be anywhere near release just yet but development is still underway. Apple’s recent WWDC keynote saw Epic Games announce that Fortnite would also be coming to Mac. It will be based on the operating system’s Metal API which will also be supported in the upcoming update “El Capitan”.

In a statement to Polygon, Epic noted that “The Mac version will be supported along with PC for the closed beta that starts later this year.” The closed beta will be taking place in the fall, offering a look at just how well the shooter runs on Mac OS.

Fortnite has been Epic’s main project for several years now, operating on Unreal Engine 4 and combining free to play with sandbox elements and zombie survival. Though a release date has yet to be locked down, this latest beta news at least indicates that it’s still alive. Stay tuned for more details as E3 2015 rolls around.
