Star Wars Battlefront: “Single-Player Was Never the Plan”

DICE's Patrick Bach talks about the emphasis on multiplayer only in the upcoming shooter.

Star Wars Battlefront

Despite the fact that DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront had a pretty good showing at E3, there was some criticism of the game at first when it was revealed to not have a single-player campaign. Speaking to GameSpot, studio GM Patrick Bach said that single-player was never the plan for Battlefront and the studio instead focused on letting players re-live the franchise’s battles above all else.

“To be honest, single-player was never in the plan. It was never the concept. The concept for us was always that we wanted players to re-live the battles. We wanted them to play the battles from the original movies. And DICE, coming from its Battlefield background, knows how to make awesome battles in that context.”

Of course, Bach did talk about the single-player campaigns from previous games like Battlefield. Should the studio hire more talent to improve the campaigns especially since it’s a key part of EA’s portfolio?

“Yes absolutely, and it’s not as though we haven’t done single-player before. I would agree with you, our single-player has not been as strong as our multiplayer.

“But then again you could argue that we are comparing our campaigns with what some say are the greatest multiplayer games in the world. If you try to match that, you are probably doomed for failure. Or at least, it’s very, very hard.”

Star Wars Battlefront releases this November for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
