Treyarch is going for something different with the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty this year. In their upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, they are trying a different multiplayer philosophy. They call it the “guns up” philosophy, and they are using to refine the gameplay experience for online multiplayer. With guns up, players can expect more fluidity and additional control over the way that they interact with the world around them.

“We wanted to really keep players in the fight the entire time, and we have this philosophy, we call it “guns up” philosophy, so your guns always going to be up for every movement, you’re going to stay engaged in the fight at all times,” Treyarch’s game design director David Vonderhaar said to GameReactor.

“We also built the movement system around omnidirectional control, so if you are moving to the left and you’re in a gunfight with somebody and you hit a piece of cover, you’re going to be able to mantle over that piece of cover fluidly, stay in the fight, and maintain control the entire time.

“So it’s all about giving players more control, removing those barriers that slow down combat, give them command over their interaction with the environment, let them use the environment as a tool, feel that fluidity, chain all of the movements together, so you can really just move around the map very fast, very fluid and get into position, and then engage in your combat in the very classic feel of boots on the ground head to head engagements.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches this November on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC.
