Since Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate was announced, it has been getting almost constant comparisons to Unity. This is, of course because the last title in this series that was launched by Ubisoft had quite a few problems on that launch day. Now the company is having to play a bit of a PR game in order to make sure people understand the firm is making sure those same problems aren’t repeated this year.

Marc-Alexis Cote recently sat down with Gamespot to talk about the moves the company has made in order to make sure Syndicate is the real deal. Earlier, Ubisoft made it clear that adding a female protagonist was not in reaction to backlash suffered from Unity. Cote says the plan was always to have a female in this particular game. That doesn’t mean that the company isn’t aware it needs to make gamers confident in its abilities again after the Unity fiasco.

During the interview, Cote was specifically asked what the company is doing in order to make sure the launch isn’t as buggy as Unity was. While he didn’t specifically answer that question, he did point out that the firm had a playable demo of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate at this year’s E3. That was something they didn’t do with Unity. “For one, we’re iterating on a lot of ideas from Unity and perfecting them. We’re building on the work they did on the AC ecosystem. One of the other things that I hope reassures people is that we’ve shown a playable demo at E3 this year, which is a first. We had more than 30,000 people play the game and we gathered feedback. That’s something we’ve never done in the past and never this early.” Cote said. He added that the game is in better shape at this stage of development than the previous iteration was and that speaks well for the future. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate launches on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 23.
