Scalebound

Gamescom has already brought us a great look at Scalebound thanks to an eight minute gameplay video and now the game’s developers are shedding some real light on little details about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive. Dualshockers got a behind the scenes meeting with Scalebound’s Director Hideki Kamiya, and Creative Producer Jean Pierre Kellams. During that presentation the pair let a number of details slip.

Among the most interesting tidbits is that players won’t ever really have direct control of the dragon, as it will have its own AI. Players can give it instructions such as “go there” and “attack.” At least for us, it would have been a bit cooler if you could have actually stepped into the dragon’s shoes from time to time. On the other hand, the main protagonist Drew can use the magic of the surrounding world in order to turn himself into a kind of humanoid dragon. The magic of Draconis is called the pulse and it sounds as if users should look at The Pulse the same way Star Wars fans look at The Force. It’s all around and gives citizens of Draconis a number of gifts. Also, dungeons are also confirmed to be in the game.

One piece the developers wanted to make sure to touch on was that Drew’s dragon is built to act like a real animal instead of a robot. There is an actual relationship between Drew and the dragon and at times they will have a bit of a rocky relationship. It will be up to the player to work through those rocky times. The game’s weapons will have a durability meter and players can buy dragon armor with in-game currency. Fortunately, there will be no microtransactions). The dragon can be customized using gems dropped by the enemy.

Scalebound doesn’t have an official release date but should be out around the holiday season next year.
