Konami have released the first official screenshot comparison which gives our first look at the core differences between the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC versions. Other than the resolution differences, it’s rather startling to see the differences between last gen and current gen versions of Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain.

To begin with the last gen versions lack added effects such as depth of field, high resolution textures and for some reason they look rather blurry. Not to mention that they totally lack any sort texture filtering along with ambient occlusion. This is not to say that they look bad, but the difference is crystal clear. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain clearly shines on the current gen versions with superior depth of field, foliage density, shadow and lighting effects along with high resolution textures.

However the real surprise is the PC version. According to our previous analysis, the PC version of Ground Zeroes was almost similar to the PS4 version in terms of lighting and shadow effects but it seems that will change with The Phantom Pain. As clearly seen in the screenshots below, the PC version has better ambient occlusion and anisotropic filtering.
