Windows 10 Can Apparently Detect and Disabled Pirated Copies of Microsoft Games

Cue return of NSA conspiracy theorists.

Xbox One Streaming to Windows 10

This might be one down side to installing Windows 10 for many of you who don’t necessarily like paying for your PC games- according to the updated EULA for the operating system, Windows 10 can theoretically detect and disable pirated copies of games and software made by Microsoft.

“We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. You may also be required to update the software to continue using the Services.,” reads the service agreement.

Of course, just because Microsoft can do this, it does not mean that it will do it. And especially given that most Microsoft software is now either free (such as Fable Legends, and Windows 10 itself), or subscription based (such as Microsoft Office), not many people will really have an excuse to actually pirate software anymore.

Still, I can see this being troubling for some people, on a principled basis, and I can certainly empathize with that point of view too.
