Twitch finally has some competition as the de facto game streaming service, as YouTube Gaming, Google’s competitor to the service that they have been working on and teasing since at least June of this year, has now finally launched.
YouTube Gaming will, much like Twitch, provide a platform for livestreaming, Let’s Plays, and other video content, for both creators and viewers- Google hopes to integrate the great gaming culture and community of YouTube into YouTube viewing, and leverage the synergy of YouTube Viewing and YouTube as an advantage over Twitch.
YouTube Gaming will automatically collect all gaming-related videos and content while also providing over 25,000 pages dedicated to specific games. In addition, the service will also be getting a brand new mobile app for iOS and Android that will be available for download, starting today.
Will YouTube manage to make a dent in Twitch’s marketshare, or will it sink without a trace? We don’t know just yet, but the first thing YouTube Gaming needs to do is to play Pokemon.
