Destiny Level Gaps in Year Two Won’t Overwhelm Players

Worried about level 41 enemies in Court of Oryx? Luke Smith explains the change to level differences.

Perhaps the best change to come from Destiny: The Taken King and the upcoming segregation of player level and Light level is that Guardians will no longer have to opt for certain pieces of gear to hit level 40. However, with the new Light level system – which calculates your overall attack and defense based on the gear instead – there will be less of an overwhelming challenge from fighting level 41 enemies.

Responding to concerns of level 41 enemies in Court of Oryx, creative director Luke Smith tweeted that, “A one-level gap in Year 1 between player and AI was a huge difference. The Year 2 Combat equation is based on Light now, so don’t sweat a 41.”

As long as there isn’t a significant difference between your Light level and the recommended Light for missions, you can be assured of survival. Meeting the requirement and/or exceeding it is still the best way to go but enemies will no longer have the jump on you simply because they’re one level higher.

Destiny: The Taken King is out on September 15th for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3.
