Fallout 4’s Crafting System Will Also Reduce Economy Exploits

'There's no more junk lying around.'

One of the big new additions to Fallout 4 that was announced at E3 was the crafting system. It looked pretty extensive, and it looked to add another layer of depth to a series of games that is already known for having ludicrous amounts of depth from the get go.

Director Todd Howard discussed the crafting system, and what it meant for the player, and how it would translate in game.

“The main gist of it is that we have all this junk around the world. It sort of started like if you look at alchemy in Skyrim, but imagine that was on everything,” he said. “Not everything has components. You don’t have anything that just has like, ‘my only existence is I am worth two caps.’ We have nothing like that.”

The result of this all, he said, is amusingly enough, the development team not having to worry too much about balancing the economy of the game.

“People on the team who are playing it are hoarding all the crap instead of selling it,” Howard said.
