While Sony’s sales are rolling right along, when it comes to the PS4, there are people who wonder if Microsoft’s decision to offer backwards compatibility on the Xbox One might eventually start to cut into the PS4’s lead when it comes to the console wars. If that is indeed a factor, Sony doesn’t seem to be sweating it.

Coming off a very successful Paris Games Week presentation, Sony Europe’s head, Jim Ryan sat down with Eurogamer and talked about a great many subjects and front center was whether or not Sony was rethinking it’s approach to backwards compatibility. It turns out Ryan was exactly the right guy to answer, since he gave an interview back in June where he made it clear he didn’t believe his company needed or wanted to make that move. In the most recent interview, Ryan doubled down on those comments and brought a little more context into why Sony doesn’t have any real interest in this kind of technology.

“People move on very quickly. It was very interesting to look at that montage of the various Tekkens, and seeing how those things have evolved over the years. The first one, which I loved, looks prehistoric. The next generation comes along, and people just jump at it. It gets talked about, and it’s always high on the list of what people want, but it’s not a feature that gets used that much.” Ryan said. He added that Sony’s focus is on new games. Apparently he and the rest of the company are happy to let Microsoft alone spend their time on bringing older games to the current generation of consoles.
